I know this is not a new show, however it was new for me. With a rating of PG14 and numerous recommendations, I thought I’d give it a try. I can see why so many people are addicted to this show. The acting really is wonderful. However, I wouldn’t advise this for the younger audience despite the main characters being so young.
It is definitely more on the horror side than sci-fi/fantasy. Not to mention, the drinking, sex, swearing, and other questionable elements for young teens. This show, despite its young actors, is made for a mature audience. I have found this is an all too frequent aspect of shows today. The producers and writers want to entertain an adult audience and still appeal to the younger age ranges which ultimately leaves the show inappropriate for the less mature viewers.
The gist of the storyline is that the town has a soft-spot or doorway to another reality/dimension which has numerous similarities to what most would consider hell. They call it the ‘upside down’. It is a land of evil which threatens the lives of the characters. A part of the show was inspired by the conspiracy theories about the Montauk Project which took children and experimented on them.
If you enjoy horror, you will like the show. For the conservative parents, this isn’t a show for the young or impressionable.
