Who Am I?

I am a work in progress.

As I debated about what to write in this ‘about me’ section, I typed and deleted repeatedly until I finally decided I don’t really know who I am definitively. I am a work in progress. Not quite the woman I want to be, but accepting of who I am today. Which is a significant improvement of who I used to be. All things considered.

I believe with my whole being that laughter heals. When I’ve had a bad day, I put on shows or movies which make me laugh out loud. Some of my favorites are: Noises Off, Friends, or Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman. I heard a story once of a man who was diagnosed with a terminal illness who healed by watching the show Green Acres and laughing endlessly. Now, I don’t know how true the story is, but I absolutely believe laughter heals.

When I think about who I am, a litany of descriptive nouns flash in my mind. I am a nurse, an author, an artist, a speaker, a swimmer, a kayaker, a country and city girl, a reader…etcetera ad nauseam. If I had to simplify, I would say I am a child of God who loves to laugh and help others.

I have had different careers in my life. I began working in elementary school as we were poor and working was the only way I could have money to buy candy or go skating. Those were the important things back then. I received my girl scout’s badges in first-aid and babysitting, then advertised to my neighbors with younger kids my services as a babysitter.

I moved on to waitressing in high school and then into retail. I worked as a substitute teacher for a year and let me just say, “Thank You!” to every teacher on this planet. Teaching kids is not as easy as it looks!

My first degree was Radio/TV/Film from a small college in the greater Los Angeles area. I interned at Marty Katz Productions where I was able to convince Marty to do the budget for The Lord of the Rings movie.

Then, I became a registered nurse and my life changed drastically. I went through a bitter divorce, got lost in the murky waters of my own making, and found myself. Which leads me to where I am today.

Yes, I am still working as a nurse. However, I am following my passions as I pursue a new career in writing and art. I hope you all enjoy my journey with me.

Sincerely,

Crissy B.

My crazy life, in retrospect, has been full of love, adventure, mishaps, and humor. Of course, there was sadness as well. But as my paternal grandmother used to say, “Laugh every day and smile, no matter how you feel. It will make people wonder what you’re up to.”

As I smile and laugh on this journey called life, I dream of one day making my living as a writer. I hope you decide to join this adventure with me as we laugh, cry, and keep a mischievous smile at the ready.
