Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Now streaming on Disney+
In preparation for the latest installment in the Indiana Jones franchise, I re-watched the earlier four films. Although I’m sure you could enjoy The Dial of Destiny without seeing every Indiana movie, you would definitely not get the numerous hidden gems referencing preceding storylines. The Dial of Destiny delivered in true Indi fashion with a mixture of humor, adventure, action, and mythical history. A fun aspect was the return of characters, such as Sallah played by John Rhys-Davies as well as the trip back in time to Indi in his prime facing off against the Nazis, courtesy of Industrial Light and Magic.
The prior Indi film ended with Marion and Indiana’s wedding and hinted at perhaps their son one day following in his parent’s footsteps. I wish he had. I loved Shia LaBeouf as Mutt, aka Henry Jones, Jr., III.
Spoiler Alert for the following (skip if you don’t want to know):
Like Harrison Ford’s character, Indiana Jones, my heart broke knowing his son, Mutt, died. Helena, although superbly acted by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, was a poor substitution for Shia LaBeouf portraying Jones, III. There was just something about Jones having a son to carry on after him. I wanted more of the family Jones. I am glad Karen Allen made an appearance as Indiana Jones’ true love. However, it was bittersweet for me.
Dial of Destiny is absolutely worth a watch, bittersweet aspect notwithstanding. Enjoy!
